Georgian kiwi has entered the Japanese market. According to the kiwi-producing company Nergeta, beginning from February 2017, Georgian-produced tropical fruit has been available in various Japanese supermarkets in the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Fukuoka. The partner of Nergeta, a Japanese fruit distributing company, is happy with the first try.
‘We were exporting Georgian kiwi to EU countries and it still remains one of the most important markets for us. We appreciate all the contacts we have with European networks because in the future we plan to sell more Georgian products there. At the same time we are interested in finding the markets and networks, where they pay a high premium on the quality of products. We are happy to meet such an important and strategic partner in Japan. They think it is possible to popularize Georgian kiwi so that it becomes
as famous as the kiwi from New Zealand’, - Konstantine Vekua, Nergeta company’s co-founder and development director says.
The company’s operations director Giga Japava says, according to the safety standards, Japan is even stricter than EU.
‘That’s why we continue to develop and raise our standards’, - Japava says. Nergeta was founded in 2009, with agricultural lands in Samegrelo region’s villages of Ingiri and Kakhati, in western Georgia.
