Georgia used to be a place, where people used to come for folk dances and polyphonic music. Recently the musical scene started really expanding: you can listen to crazy variety of music arts, starting from top class performances in Tbilisi Opera to famous techno DJs coming to play at the seaside. Summer 2016 is going to please all the music lovers, because there will be so many things to listen and places to enjoy!
But still, let’s start from folk festival (at least because of chronological order). In July there is always time for uniting the cultures of all regions of Georgia. Art Gene festival will be held in the Ethnographic Museum in Tbilisi on the 10.07 – 17.07. Every day you’ll get a chance to learn more about the Georgian regional cultures and attend the concert of Sukhishvili dancers, Nino Katamadze, 33a and many other locally famous bands. The tickets are available at the doors of the Ethnographic Museum.
Black Sea Jazz Festival
At the seaside of Georgia, in Batumi, there is a traditional summer jazz festival, which is hosting a lot of big musicians. This year the list of headliners includes Quincy Jones, Miles Davis Electric Band, Renegade Brass Band and even not jazzy stars as The Prodigy and Chris Brown. The festival days are 15.05 – 24.07, and the tickets are already available at www.tkt.ge, so don’t hesitate to add some groove to your summer melody!
Tbilisi Open Air / Altervision
Another variety of music genres is going to shake the area around Lisi Lake in Tbilisi. Great open air location is hosting Morcheeba, Betoko, Young Georgian Lolitaz, Blue Foundation, Damien Rice and dozens of other musicians and DJs on the weekend from 29.07 to 31.07.
GEM Fest
Georgian Electronic Music Festival is happening for the second time on the sea shore of Anaklia, a little village in the Western Georgia, which combines rural calmness with modern art installations and… yeah, techno beats. During the five days (10.08 - 14.08) several world class electronic and techno musicians will perform in front of several thousand people from all around the world. The headliners of 2016 are Paul Van Dyk, Paul Kalkbrenner, Fedde Le Grand, GusGus Live.
Heat Batumi (all summer)
Batumi is welcoming its guests with amazing initiative called Heat Batumi. Brass music, folk dances, concerts, open markets and different other events for adults and children are happening every weekend during the whole summer. Don’t be afraid of heat, if it’s Heat Batumi!
